The SLMPD Homicide Division is seeking assistance from anyone that might know of – or remember – anything related to a homicide that occurred in 1980 in south St. Louis. Around 2 a.m. on August 30, 1980, 21-year-old Jerome Williams sustained blunt force trauma during an assault that occurred out his residence in the 2700 block of Rutger. Jerome died from his injuries on August 31, 1980. A 19-year-old male was arrested for the assault at the time; however, charges against the man were taken under advisement and never issued. Witherspoon was shot and killed in the 8300 block of Dickman Park.
District 5 is investigating a shooting that left a woman injured on July 21, 2026 in the Greater Ville neighborhood. Just before 12:30 a.m. on July 21, officers were called to a local hospital after a 44-year-old woman was dropped off suffering from a gunshot wound to her back. She was listed in critical but stable condition. A preliminary investigation revealed the woman was inside her residence when gunfire from outside the residence struck the home. No other people inside the home were injured. Investigators are working to determine the circumstances around the shooting.
The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Gregory Seddens, of St. Louis. The victim’s family has been notified. On July 16th, 2026, around 1:45PM, District 4 officers responded to the 4100 block of N. Grand for a shooting. When officers arrived, they located a 36-year-old man who had been shot. He was barely conscious and barely breathing. EMS responded and conveyed the man to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries. Homicide Detectives were requested and assumed the investigation.
